The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest federal court of the United States. Established pursuant to Article III of the United States Constitution in 1789, it has ultimate (and largely discretionary) appellate jurisdiction over all federal courts and over state court cases involving issues of federal law, plus original jurisdiction over a small range of cases. In the legal system of the United States, the Supreme Court is the final interpreter of federal constitutional law, although it may only act within the context of a case in which it has jurisdiction.
The mission of the United States Tax Court is to provide a national forum to expeditiously resolve disputes between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service while carefully considering the merits of each case and ensuring the uniform interpretation of the Internal Revenue Code. The Court is committed to providing taxpayers, most of whom are self-represented, with a convenient place of trial and, when their disputes involve relatively small amounts of tax dollars, simplified procedures.
Federation of Tax Administrators
The Federation of Tax Administrators (FTA)’s mission is to improve the quality of state tax administration by providing services to state tax authorities and administrators. Individual and corporate income tax rates for all states can be found on this site.
On Nov. 19, 2017 Congress became master of its domain. Legislative information migrated from Thomas housed in the Library of Congress website to Congress.gov, a dedicated system that contains text of legislation, member information, committee reports, a searchable online version of the Congressional Record and more.
The United States Senate offers resources about legislative and tax issues. The finance section has detailed information about legislation being considered by the Senate Finance Committee.
